Role Overview:
Our client, a leading global macro hedge fund, is looking to hire an experienced EM Macro Portfolio Manager to join their New York-based team. As a senior member of the portfolio team, the EM Macro Portfolio Manager will be responsible for generating high-conviction EM FX & Rates investment ideas, managing an independent book, and contributing directly to P&L through focused trades in liquid EM FX and local rates markets. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in major EM economies, such as China, Brazil, Mexico, and other large, liquid markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independent Trade Management: Develop, invest, and manage independent trade ideas within a personal trading book, with the potential to grow capital allocation over time.
- P&L Contribution: Play a significant role in driving P&L, primarily via FX and local rates trades in liquid EM markets.
- Generate and propose EM FX strategies to the CIO and portfolio team.
- Structure, implement, and optimize top-down EM FX ideas aligned with the portfolio’s macro framework.
- Macro Framework & Market Analysis: Build and sustain a comprehensive macro framework focused on major EM FX markets, especially in China, Korea, Brazil, Mexico, and CE3 countries. Stay informed on significant events and policy developments, leveraging these insights to inform the team and shape trades.
- Information Sharing: Filter and analyze news for relevance to major EM FX economies, sharing insights and actionable information with the portfolio team and CIO.
- Collaborative Research: Conduct thorough market research, working collaboratively with colleagues across FX, Rates, and Equities. Partner with Centralized Execution and Execution Research teams to optimize trade execution.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Buy-side experience in a risk-taking or idea-generating role is highly preferred.
- A minimum of 7+ years in EM FX markets, with a record of rapid career advancement and success.
- Proven expertise in one or more major EM FX markets (China, Brazil, Mexico, CE3), including a well-defined macroeconomic framework.
- Strong intellectual curiosity and independence, with an ability to conduct deep, meticulous research to arrive at accurate conclusions.
- Team-oriented mindset, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated quantitative aptitude and an understanding of options is highly desired.
