Equity Long/Short Portfolio Manager
Location
London, UK
We are looking for a senior equity long/short portfolio manager who has already run 500 million to 1 billion in GMV with a demonstrated track record at that scale, not someone stepping up untested. The style should be tight, low volatility and close to market neutral, with net exposure held within roughly plus or minus 5 percent. Target performance is around 4 to 6 percent returns on GMV, with a Sharpe ratio ideally in the 1.5 to 2 range or higher (a longer tenured PM with a 10 year plus record could flex to the low 1.2 to 1.3 area). For a book in the 400 to 500 million range this implies at least around 20 million in PnL per year sustained over a couple of years. Minor drawdowns are acceptable where there is a clean, well reasoned explanation of how they were worked out of. A credible growth trajectory matters: for example having run 150 to 250 million with solid returns before stepping up to 350 to 500 million plus for a couple of years.
The primary focus is equity long/short, with some flexibility toward event driven (slight preference for hard catalyst situations, where a more generalist profile is fine). Candidates should be running large, scalable books in large sectors such as industrials, TMT or global energy transition, rather than niche strategies. We will not consider anyone running below roughly 150 million.
