Junior Macro Portfolio Manager
Role Overview:
Our client, a leading alternative investment manager, is looking to hire a Junior Portfolio Manager to join their highly successful macro team.
The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years’ experience, ideally as a Rates Strategist or Macro Desk Strategist (or similar) and with a quantitative background and coding proficiency in Python. Candidates with a sell-side desk strategist backgrounds would be the optimal fit, although relevant buy-side profiles or macro candidates that don’t come from a rates background will also be considered, provided they have been working closely with an investment or trading team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to grow into a risk-taking role, eventually managing their own book with a clear path to taking on more responsibility over time. The Junior PM will work closely with Senior PMs on the team, contributing to both the tactical and strategic management of the macro portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Trade Idea Generation: Propose and execute trade ideas based on tactical market opportunities and strategic positions across Rates, FX, and EGBs.
- Portfolio Management: Support senior portfolio managers trade idea generation across tactical and strategic investments, particularly in liquid markets.
- Building Infrastructure: Develop and maintain tools for signal generation, scenario simulations, and data analysis to support portfolio monitoring and risk management.
- Market Monitoring & PnL Tracking: Continuously track market movements, compute PnL, and monitor portfolio performance to inform strategic decisions.
- Presentations & Market Analysis: Prepare and present detailed market analyses, producing content for internal and external stakeholders to aid in decision-making processes.
- Ownership & Growth: Participate in progressively larger responsibilities within the team, with a long-term goal of growing into a Portfolio Manager with direct risk-taking duties.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Coding Proficiency in Python is essential, with experience in building and maintaining risk management infrastructure.
- Strong background in macro and rates strategy, with a clear framework for generating trade ideas (highly desired) and a strong track record of trade idea generation rates, ideally within rates.
- 2-5 years of experience, ideally as a desk strategist in rates or rates vol (ideal), however buy-side profiles will also be considered, depending on background and set-up.
- Strong academic background from a top-tier university.
- Experience working on a trading desk or within a portfolio management team
- Desire to take risk and grow into a PM seat, with a clear ambition to eventually manage a significant VaR limit.
- Strong analytical skills, with attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume trading environment.
- Team player with a positive attitude and work ethic, eager to learn and contribute to a growing team.
