VP, Manager Selection (Equities)
Role Overview
We have partnered with a tier-1 global institutional investor to hire an Equities Allocator/Manager Selection professional within its External Managers platform, based in New York.
This is a growth-driven hire within a highly sophisticated and well-respected equities allocator team that partners with leading global hedge fund and long-only equity managers. The role sits within a relatively lean but high-impact team, offering exceptional exposure to a broad range of equity strategies, significant deal flow, and deep access to top-tier managers globally.
The team is deliberately open on background. This is not a rigid like-for-like allocator search. Instead, the focus is on intellectually curious investors with strong analytical foundations, sound judgment, and the motivation to work across a broad, institutional-quality external managers portfolio. The platform supports relocation to the U.S. and can offer visa sponsorship where required, with a preference for candidates who can realistically relocate to New York.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct fund manager due diligence, including qualitative and quantitative analysis, manager selection, and ongoing monitoring across external equity managers.
- Support portfolio construction and management across a diversified set of equity strategies, including long/short, event-driven, merger arbitrage, and long-only.
- Evaluate idiosyncratic, tactical, and opportunistic investment ideas, including potential co-investments and special situations.
- Perform detailed analysis on investment strategies, performance drivers, risk factors, and market dynamics.
- Engage directly with external managers, sourcing ideas and insights through ongoing dialogue and review processes.
- Contribute to the evolution and scaling of a rapidly growing U.S. equities allocator platform, working closely with senior team members.
- Collaborate effectively within a lean, high-performing team while maintaining the ability to work independently on complex analytical tasks.
Requirements & Qualifications
- 5-12 years of experience in an equities-focused analytical role, gained on the buy-side, sell-side, or within an adjacent investment platform (allocator, hedge fund, asset manager, or similar).
- Strong analytical ability and intellectual curiosity, with the judgment required to assess a wide variety of managers and strategies.
- Background does not need to be a perfect allocator match; adjacent experience is welcomed where fundamentals and motivation are strong.
- Comfortable operating in an environment with high deal flow and broad manager exposure.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate investment views clearly to internal stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work as an exceptional team player, while also operating independently with ownership and accountability.
- Strong academic credentials.
- Openness to relocation to New York; visa sponsorship may be available for the right international candidates.
