European IG Financials Credit Analyst (Senior Associate)
Role Overview
We have partnered with a leading alternative investment manager looking to hire a Senior Associate to join their Investment Grade (IG) Financials Credit Research team in London.
This is a newly created, high-impact position designed to be the senior Financials anchor in Europe and to work closely with the Global Head of IG Credit Research, as well as the portfolio managers.
Initial coverage will be focused on European Insurers (approx 40-45 names), with the objective of eventually covering the wider European financials universe (eg. Banks).
This is a rare opportunity to build expertise across both public and private credit strategies while working as part of a market-leading team, which makes this role particularly exciting.
Key Responsibilities
- Full ownership of credit analysis across 40-45 European Insurance names
- Develop long-term projections and perform regulatory balance sheet analysis (e.g., Solvency II, ALM, capital buffers).
- Produce in-depth investment materials, including underwriting decks, investment memos, and committee materials.
- Monitor credits actively, flag downgrade risks, and contribute to thematic portfolio positioning.
- Direct and quality-control analytical output from a team investment analysts based in India.
- Actively participate in investment committee discussions, providing thought leadership and independent risk views.
- Collaborate with Apollo’s insurance group on select transactions while remaining fully independent from affiliated insurance platforms.
- Engage in bespoke and confidential credit opportunities, including private and public transactions under NDA.
- Maintain close coordination with global Financials analysts (and broader IG Research team) and develop a strong understanding of global relative value dynamics across US, Canada, Australia, Japan, and Europe.
Requirements & Qualifications
- 5-10 years total experience in credit or equity research with a focus on Financials, particularly insurance
- Deep insurance modelling capabilities with projection experience
- Comfort navigating complex regulatory balance sheets
- Strong Excel skills (Python not required)
- Demonstrated ability to assess downgrade risk and make high-conviction credit judgments
- Experience preparing detailed underwriting materials and presenting investment views
- Strong communicator, both written and verbal
- Proactive, fast, and disciplined mindset
- Collaborative team player able to operate independently and at a senior level
- Comfortable in a high-performance, rigorous, and expectation-driven environment
