Senior Exotic Energy Trader (VP / Director)
Role Overview
We have partnered exclusively with a top-tier global bank on a rare and high-conviction mandate to hire a Senior Exotic Energy Trader at VP to Junior Director level, based in London.
The desk runs a live, revenue-generating book across exotic gas and power options, gas storage, power interconnection, and physical battery assets. Alongside that, the team is now building out a brand new vertical in continental European renewable power shape trading and physical battery tolling, backed by strong senior commitment at the highest level.
The person coming into this seat will be the second trader on the desk, sitting directly alongside the Head of Exotic Energy, with real P&L responsibility from day one. This is not an analytics or structuring role. It is a hands-on, implementation-focused trading seat for someone who wants to be central to help building something genuinely new in European energy markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and risk-manage the new renewable power shape and battery tolling book alongside the Head of the desk
- Co-manage the existing exotic OTC options book across oil, gas and power, including TTF/Henry Hub spreads, exotic path-dependent structures and correlation plays
- Find offsetting flows in the market and use liquid instruments such as baseload power, gas and options to hedge illiquid long-dated renewable and battery positions
- Quote client flows, manage second and third order risks, and understand tail risk in stress scenarios
- Work with sales to develop the client franchise and grow the new business vertical
- Operate effectively within a large bank infrastructure including complex quantitative models, large correlation matrices and multiple IT systems
- Liaise with the quant team, recalibrate parameters, manage risk limits and ensure clean booking and cash flow reconciliation
Requirements and Qualifications
- 3 to 13 years of trading experience with real, direct P&L responsibility
- Continental European power or gas markets experience is essential
- Exotic derivatives experience required - options on energy underlyings, cross-commodity structures, path-dependent or correlation-driven products
- Experience with or strong understanding of renewable power shape products (solar/wind PPA swaps) and/or battery spread products (TB2 swaps, tolling)
- Quant practitioner mindset, someone comfortable working within complex quantitative infrastructure, able to understand and challenge model outputs
- Pragmatic with a can-do approach
