Continental Power Trader
Role Overview
We have partnered with a leading global bank looking to hire a Continental Power Trader to join their Power and Gas Trading Desk. This is a key role focused on managing flat price risk and pricing client flow across core Continental European power hubs, including Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, and Spain. The position also includes exposure to UK Power, Gas, and Emissions trading.
The ideal candidate will bring strong knowledge of physical power markets and experience operating in a flow-style trading environment. This opportunity is suited to individuals at VP level (4-10 years` experience) or above, with a strong foundation in linear power instruments and an interest in expanding their product scope.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage flat price risk across the power trading book, working closely with the existing power trader on the desk
- Price and hedge client flow across major Continental European power hubs (e.g., Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy, Spain)
- Engage in UK Power trading, as well as some gas and emissions trading, as part of a broader cross-commodity strategy
- Utilize swaps, futures, and other linear instruments to execute and manage risk
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure effective risk and position management across products and geographies
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: 4-10+ years of experience in power trading, ideally gained at a utility or investment bank, with a preference for those at VP level or above
- Market Knowledge: Deep understanding of physical power markets and experience trading in a flow-style environment
- Product Expertise: Strong familiarity with swaps, futures, and linear power instruments; options experience is a plus
- Regional Exposure: Prior experience trading Continental European power markets; UK Power and emissions trading experience is advantageous
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work closely with other traders and contribute to a high-performance, cross-commodity trading desk
