Head Of Investments
Role Overview
Our client, a European insurance group, is looking to hire a Head of Investments to lead the development and execution of its investment strategy across Belgium. This is a key strategic hire at an important point of transformation, with the organisation upgrading its investment governance, reshaping senior leadership, and enhancing its ALM, private markets deployment, and overall portfolio management framework.
The Head of Investments will report directly to the CFO and work in close partnership with the group’s central investment platform, which provides deep expertise across asset allocation, ALM, risk management, and private markets execution. The role blends high-level strategic input with hands-on oversight and requires strong communication with senior internal and external stakeholders.
This individual will lead a team of six, operating in a collaborative generalist model covering ALM, cash and liquidity management, private asset deployment, unit-linked oversight, and portfolio monitoring. The wider investment function is in the process of strengthening governance, modernising systems, and building a more robust investment operating model.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the strategic asset allocation and ALM framework across the Belgian balance sheet.
- Oversee portfolio construction, performance, risk levels, and compliance with solvency requirements.
- Manage liquidity, derivatives collateral, and balance-sheet positioning across market environments.
- Strengthen governance, reporting, and internal processes across the investment function.
- Partner closely with the group’s central investment platform on implementation, market views, and private asset deployment.
- Monitor market trends, macroeconomic developments, and portfolio sensitivities to guide investment decision-making.
- Oversee unit-linked fund selection and external manager oversight for higher-risk mandates.
- Act as a senior representative to regulators, auditors, the Board, and investment committees.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of six, raising standards and building a strong investment culture.
- Provide clear, structured communication that can simplify complex topics for non-technical stakeholders.
Candidate Profile
- Strong technical knowledge across fixed income, credit, derivatives, ALM, and insurance portfolios.
- Experience working within an insurance environment or managing life insurance assets.
- Deep understanding of Solvency II, insurance balance-sheet dynamics, and regulatory governance.
- Ability to challenge internal and external investment teams confidently and constructively.
- High standards of clarity, logic, and structured communication in both written and verbal formats.
- Comfortable navigating regulatory scrutiny and multi-stakeholder environments.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, with a hands-on, collaborative approach and experience managing teams.
- Fluency in English; French or Dutch is advantageous.
